San Diego is located in southern California and lies along the Pacific Ocean at the San Diego Bay. San Diego is just north of the Mexico border and about 120 miles southeast of Los Angeles. The region has a mild, sunny climate all year long with few rainy days. This means there is a ton of opportunity for outdoor recreational activities like surfing, boating, going to the zoo, or catching a San Diego Padres baseball game!

San Diego hosts one of the largest U.S Navy bases in the country! The total on-base population is 20,000 military personnel and 6,000 civilians with 54 ships, 13 piers, 977 acres of land and 325 acres of water. Unfortunately, you cannot step onto the base itself to tour, but you can take a harbor cruise that passes the naval ships!

San Diego is also the second largest city in California! Growth of the country skyrocketed after 1900 when the population grew from 20,000 to over 200,000 by 1940. The economic base was centralized around agricultural, fishing, manufacturing and shipping.

A harbour cruise passing the naval ships isn’t the only fun thing you can do in San Diego! In 1984 the formation of the San Diego Padres put sports on the map for this major city! If you’re not a sports fan, but want to do an outdoor activity look no further than visiting Balboa Park! Balboa park is home to 16 museums, picture worthy gardens, trails and even the San Diego Zoo!
